Hershey Park trip for Memorial Weekend   PDF
Written by Wei-Jing Zhu
Several families of IBMWCC and HXNY is planning a trip to Hershey Park (link for info), 200 miles from Westchester, as a good getaway for the Memorial Weekend. We have enough people for discount group rate.

Travel plan (by Jing Fu):
  • Leaving on Saturday, 5/27, hopefully before noon
  • Check into your hotel before 4PM. (Country Hearth, $99/night, it has an indoor swimming pool. See details below)
  • Spend extra time at outlet. Dinner by 5PM
  • get to Hershey, park, and take tramp to Group Sales booth by 7PM
  • We buy group rate tickets together. Bring cash for the tickets. (If everyone pays by creditcard, we are not allow to buy at group rate.)
  • Sunday's ticket allows us to go in (preview) at 7:30PM on Saturday. Kids would enjoy the rides in night lights.
  • Park closes Saturday 10PM
  • Then we spend Sunday there and go home Sunday evening.
Expecting large crowds on the Memorial weekend, let us meet at the group ticket sales at 7PM sharp on Saturday. (Thanks to Shuofei for the suggestion.)

Getting to the meeting spot:
After following the directions to Hershey, and park your car in the lot, you will ride a tramp, being dropped off at the TrampCircle, which is near the Group Sales booth. So let us meet at the Group Sales booth, (coordinate =Q-9 on the following map, lower right hand corner) at 7PM

Extra notes:
Group rate (for 20 or more)
For the Memorial weekend, the group rate is $30 for adult, $21 for children and elderly. (Regular rate is $42 and $25). We will have to meet as a group to purchase tickets on Saturday evening. (Note: online tickets don't work for group rates. 800-242-4236)

Bring cash for your tickets.
If you forget to bring cash and need loans, we will have to charge you $35/adult and $23/child,elderly for the inconvenience and hassle.

Directions on Google Map:

Given by Hershey:
NEW YORK CITY AND NORTHERN NEW JERSEY
(2.5 - 3 hours, 175 miles)
Follow I-78 West to I-81 South. Take Exit 77 and follow Route 39 South to Hershey. At the intersection of Route 39 and Hersheypark Drive, continue straight and follow the signs to enter the HERSHEYPARK Entertainment Complex.

Current families planning to attend:

  • Wei-Jing
  • Xiaohu
  • Niyu
  • Enhua
  • Yingli
  • Charles
  • Kerry
  • Duixian

Hotel:
Country Hearth (link) of Hershey/Harrisburg, PA
7965 Jonestown Rd
Hershey/Harrisburg, PA 17112

FAX: (717) 545-9297

Individual rate (AAA card holders get better than group rate below): $99/room, 2 -day cancelation policy. Credit Card to guarantee. To receive 10% AAA (auto club) discount, present AAA card during check-in. Make sure to book the room by someone who has the AAA card.

Group rate: 10 rooms or more $90/room. + tax. (Bruce Spencer)
1-week cancelation policy. need actual check deposit of 50%. i.e. $500 check ASAP. This is worse than individual rate with AAA card. So we won't bother.

Assuming that most of us have the AAA card, (or get a membership immediately, since it is important to have a level of protection during long distance driving), we could attain effectively the group rate without the hassle of getting everyone to commit first, and get the deposit way in advance.
